In the news this week, convicted con artist Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos fame! Her trial was delayed due to her first pregnancy. Will her second pregnancy delay prison check-in?
The co-hosts have some thoughts!
Isabel: Who, in their right mind, thinks about getting pregnant while they’re on trial, knowing they could face a long jail sentence? Talk about bad timing!
Kristen: I don’t know if she got pregnant on purpose. All I know is that she seems to be missing some kind of key human element.
LeNora: Perhaps motherhood will make her a better person. Too snarky?
Another thought: Why does this story seem so familiar…?
Oh, right! Because this isn’t the first time in recent history a woman has used her uterus to get her out of prison. (Pregnancy is probably one of the more powerful manipulation tactics. You have to wonder - if women only have so many methods of coming out ahead, shouldn’t we use what we have? I mean, we HAVE the uterus, so… But you’re right, you’re right. There’s always a potential child involved once the uterus is brought into the game, and that’s not fair.)
Anyway. The last time something like this made the news, we talked about it. Take a look at the link below, or find the episode where you get your podcasts.
